#RecConf a great success!

The 2017 NZRA Recreation Conference held in New Plymouth last week has been hailed a great success. The conference began with a much-anticipated presentation “the Whole River” from Gerrard Albert, and was followed by a highly engaging Dave Adams from Sport NZ. The afternoon session was highlighted by Berlinda Chin and the inspirational Guy Ryan who both made it a memorable one.

The second day was packed with highlights with presentations from Darryn Ratana and the dynamic duo of Dr Ashleigh Huffman and Dr Sarah Hillyer, but the final presentation of day was worth waiting for as Billie Jordan and Leila G literally had the delegation dancing from their seats! It was a great way to finish what was a top programme, and if you don’t believe me (about the dancing) check out the NZRA Facebook page.

The social program was highlighted by a visit following day one to the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery where delegates were able to view the much talked about Len Lye Gallery over drinks and canapes.
However, the main conference social event was held after day two - the awards night, this highlighted key individuals and recognised and celebrated projects across all sectors of the Recreation industry. The Awards night was also a great way for delegates to let loose and dance the night away – and they did!

The conference also organised five field trips on the Friday, these were well attended and received great feedback from all who joined us. The field trips were a great way to see the local recreation facilities and experience some of the local highlights.

A big thank you must go to the Midlands Regional Committee who assisted in the conference programme and in particular made the field trips possible.
