JAWS is coming!

It’s been fifty-five years since the first ever JAWS and fourteen years since I first attended, so working on the programme is bringing back lots of fantastic memories of past conferences.

Registrations are coming in thick and fast (you can register here if you haven’t already) and I can’t wait to share details of the inspiring speakers and workshops with you. I’m particularly excited that Dr Tom Mulholland will be opening the conference; he is an Emergency Department Doctor and GP with over 25 years’ experience in New Zealand.

He has worked in Kaitaia Hospital in the North to Southland Hospital and the Sub Antarctic Islands as a doctor. He has worked in Tologa Bay, Chatham Islands, Papamoa in the east to Raglan, Taranaki and Greymouth in the west. He has hosted his own TV and Radio shows, written two internationally best-selling books and been a professional speaker to the likes of Google, Microsoft and Hilton for the last 10 years.

I can’t wait to hear him speak! JAWS is taking place on 9-11 August 2017 at the Rydges Latimer Hotel, Christchurch and will be full of opportunities to network, exchange ideas and learn about what's happening for aquatic recreation professionals in New Zealand.

We’ll also be holding the Aquatics Awards ceremony at the dinner on 10 August and you only have one week left to nominate for the Aquatics Innovation Award and Lifeguard of the Year!

Last year’s Lifeguard of the Year award went to Samuel Kau from Auckland’s Otara Pool and Leisure Centre, who is described by his co-workers as a poster boy for the community.

We were so impressed with his nomination last year that as well as choosing him as the winner of Lifeguard of the Year, we also nominated him for New Zealander of the Year. It was an honour to watch him presented with a Local Hero Medal at the ceremony in Auckland.

If you know a lifeguard who has made a massive contribution to their facility and the aquatics industry, you can nominate them now at http://bit.ly/AquaticsAwards

See you in August!
