We all know it 'in our bones'. Your Mum knew it and your Grandma was a strong proponent. Your state of mind is improved by getting some recreation time. Now there is some NZ-based evidence.

Sport NZ have recently released new research that shows that Kiwis that are physically active are more likely to have good mental health. The Recreational Physical Activity and Mental Wellbeing document has some easily digestible and repeatable factoids, including:

• People who do at least 2.5 hours of recreational physical activity each week have 51% higher odds of reporting good mental wellbeing

• More is better… participation in at least 4.5 hours per week increases the odds to 65%.

Take a read, lock some snippets in the memory bank and spread the word - be an advocate for mental health and recreation.
