Submission on the the Vocational Education and Training System (VETS) reform
We believe a unified and cohesive system is essential for providing high-quality qualifications that meet the needs of the sector. Recreation Aotearoa has called for reforms to funding models and better regional provision of qualifications, ensuring both national consistency and responsiveness to local contexts.
Our submission highlights key concerns around financial sustainability, duplication, and inefficiencies in the current system, particularly within the polytechnic sector. We advocate for stronger industry-led standards-setting and support for underserved learners, including Māori, Pasifika, and those with disabilities.
Recreation Aotearoa remains a strong voice for the sector, ensuring that any changes to vocational education serve the long-term interests of New Zealand’s recreation industry.
