From neighbourhood reserves and playgrounds to cemeteries and future open space development, these places contribute to wellbeing, environmental resilience, recreation and city identity.

Napier City Council is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking leader to shape the future direction of our open spaces network. This is a strategic leadership role focused on planning, asset stewardship, service performance, and ensuring our open spaces continue to meet the evolving needs of our community.

This role will suit someone who combines strong parks and open spaces expertise with the ability to lead improvement, influence outcomes, and build capability within a developing team environment. You’ll bring the confidence to work across strategy, operations, asset management, and capital delivery while partnering closely with operational teams and stakeholders across Council.

You’ll also play a key role in strengthening how service levels are defined, measured, and delivered ensuring Council has clear visibility of performance, value, community outcomes, and future investment needs.

Along with providing leadership, you will be expected to maintain poolside duties while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our visitors.

We are looking for a skilled communicator to play a key role in preparing our current website content for migration to a new platform.

This role sits within our Parks and Recreation team and plays a key part in shaping how Central Otago’s open spaces, parks, and play opportunities are planned and delivered.

As Parks Officer (Planning and Strategy), you’ll lead policy and strategy development while driving the implementation of Council’s Play Strategy. You’ll work closely with internal teams, mana whenua, and community partners to deliver outcomes that support vibrant, connected communities.

As the Marketing and Communications Manager at Recreation Aotearoa, you will lead the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy to raise our profile, strengthen member engagement, and increase uptake of programmes and services. You will position Recreation Aotearoa as a trusted and influential voice for the recreation sector, delivering integrated campaigns across digital, media, and owned channels, while championing the brand and authentic storytelling that reflects Te Ao Māori perspectives. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team, and programme leads, you will provide strategic advice, support advocacy priorities, use insights to drive continuous improvement, and lead and mentor a Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
