As Second in Charge, you will take an important step into leadership, supporting the Senior Lifeguard to guide, train and encourage the lifeguard team to perform at their best. You will set a positive example on poolside by modelling strong lifeguarding standards and helping create a safe, professional and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.

You will be joining the wider leadership team at Recreation Services, Upper Hutt City Council, and begin your journey into staff management. Along with providing leadership, you will be expected to maintain poolside duties while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our visitors. You will also contribute to maintaining a quality facility and assisting with the operation of pool plant systems.

Along with these Lifeguarding duties, as the second in charge, you will be required to be a duty supervisor in the absence of the Senior Lifeguard.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be physically fit with the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Have great people skills, including leadership experience.
  • Be motivated and professional.
  • Be available to work all shifts of the 3-week rotating roster which includes weekdays, weekends, day and late shifts between the hours of 5.00am - 10.30pm.
  • Relevant experience in poolside supervision.
