The aquatics industry is evolving. More New Zealanders are using aquatics facilities, so our facilities are playing a bigger role in water safety and drowning prevention efforts. You’ll find data on facility patronage, incident reports and case studies in this report.
People are central the sector – both staff and customers. There are nearly 4,000 lifeguards around Aotearoa, and many more working within the aquatics industry. This report highlights some of the dedicated people shaping the aquatics industry.
Our facilities are often the heart of a community. It’s important we build strong connections with our local communities. How this looks may differ by region but by doing so, we can understand, and better serve, the diverse groups within our local community.
Technology is also changing the way we train and operate. These advances will help us to run facilities more safely and more efficiently.
Self-reflection is essential to growth. At Recreation Aotearoa, we are re-evaluating our Poolsafe® programme, in collaboration with our Assessors and Advisory Group, to explore how we can better support the industry. Keep an eye out for new developments next year.
